National-Level Sustainable Case Study Competition “Today’s Problem. Tomorrow’s Solution.” About KARTAVYA 2026: Kartavya 2026, organised by Team Sustainability, Department of Management Studies, Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, is a national-level case study competition that provides college students across India with a platform to identify real-world problems, conduct meaningful research, and develop innovative and sustainable solutions. The competition aims to encourage analytical thinking, research, strategic problem-solving, innovation and effective communication, while enabling participants to address challenges with practical and sustainable approaches. Competition Structure: Round 1 — Online Quiz Date: 26 September 2026 The competition begins with an online quiz covering management fundamentals, sustainability, business awareness and current affairs. The quiz will remain open for a 24-hour period on 26 September 2026. Participants can attempt the quiz within the designated window. Round 1 Results: By 27 September 2026 Round 2 — Case Synopsis Round Dates: 28–30 September 2026 Teams will identify and choose a real-world problem of their choice related to sustainability, business, social impact or environmental challenges. Participants are expected to research and analyse their chosen problem and develop an innovative, feasible and sustainable solution. Teams must submit a 3–5 slide case synopsis through Unstop. The submission should clearly communicate: The chosen problem Key research and insights Analysis of the problem Proposed solution Expected impact Round 3 — Live Final Presentation Date: 3 October 2026Venue: CAT Hall, BIT Mesra Shortlisted teams will be invited to CAT Hall, BIT Mesra for the final round. Teams will present their proposed solutions before a panel of judges, followed by a Question & Answer session. Teams will have the opportunity to go beyond a conventional presentation and creatively demonstrate their solution through a physical model, prototype, working model, product mock-up, visual display or other suitable form of representation, wherever relevant to their proposed solution. The physical representation is optional and should support the team's case, demonstrate the feasibility of the solution, or help communicate its potential impact. Participants are encouraged to support their presentations with relevant research, data, case examples, prototypes and practical implementation strategies. Eligibility: Open to college students across India. Students from recognised colleges and universities can participate. Students from all academic disciplines are welcome. Cross-college teams are allowed. Cross-year and cross-specialisation teams are allowed. Individual participation is permitted. Each participant can be part of only one team. Evaluation Criteria: Teams will be evaluated on the following parameters: Problem Understanding: Clarity and depth of understanding of the selected problem. Research & Analysis: Quality of research, data, insights and analytical approach. Innovation: Originality and creativity of the proposed solution. Feasibility: Practicality, implementation potential and scalability of the solution. Sustainability & Impact: Potential environmental, social and/or economic impact. Communication & Presentation: Structure, clarity, visual communication and effectiveness of delivery. Research & Solution Development: Teams are expected to conduct relevant primary and/or secondary research for their chosen problem. The proposed solution should demonstrate a clear understanding of the problem and should focus on innovation, feasibility, sustainability and measurable impact. Any form of plagiarism, misrepresentation or submission of copied work may result in disqualification.
